Game Size Matters: How Many Megabytes Each Game Downloads

The code that runs a SalutGames game is small. Across twelve of the thirteen games, measured on 14 October 2026, the game code downloaded on a first visit ranged from 42 KB for Last-Second Landing to 103 KB for Trap Castle. All twelve games' code put together comes to about 740 KB, less than a third of the artwork in Trap Castle alone. Download size is decided almost entirely by what a game looks like and sounds like.
Where the bytes go
| Game | Total | Art | Sound | Code |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One Tap Hero | 5.4 MB | 3.8 MB | 1.5 MB | 79 KB |
| Rondo | 4.6 MB | 0.9 MB | 3.6 MB | 60 KB |
| Trap Castle | 2.5 MB | 2.4 MB | none | 103 KB |
| Lightkeeper | 2.0 MB | 1.9 MB | none | 49 KB |
| Last-Second Landing | 1.5 MB | 1.5 MB | none | 42 KB |
| Silent Maze | 1.4 MB | 1.3 MB | none | 74 KB |
| Gravibot | 1.3 MB | 1.2 MB | none | 55 KB |
| Skyhook | 1.0 MB | 0.96 MB | none | 46 KB |
| Gravity Lab | 185 KB | 77 KB | none | 73 KB |
| Dot Box Duel | 124 KB | 5 KB | none | 62 KB |
| Block Drop | 95 KB | 5 KB | none | 43 KB |
| Lost Corridors | 90 KB | 5 KB | none | 54 KB |
The rest of each total is fonts, the page itself and its styles. Tap Burst is left out of the table because its runs in this test were cut short. In the earlier speed test its total was 2.0 MB.
Three kinds of game, three kinds of size
Illustrated games spend 91% to 97% of their download on art. Trap Castle's castle rooms and bosses, Lightkeeper's lighthouse and storm, Skyhook's skylines and Last-Second Landing's islands are pictures, and pictures are the heavy part. They are already stored in a compressed modern image format, so there is little left to squeeze out without making them look worse.
Games with recorded sound carry a second weight. Rondo's stadium crowd and voices make up 78% of its download, 3.6 MB of 4.6. In One Tap Hero, the boss roars, hero voices and footsteps are 1.5 MB, 27% of its total. Every other game in the table downloads no sound at all, because its sound is generated by code as the game runs.
Games drawn in code are the smallest by far. Lost Corridors, Block Drop and Dot Box Duel each download about 5 KB of images, little more than an icon. Their walls, blocks, dots and characters are drawn by the same code that runs the game, which is how Lost Corridors comes to 90 KB in total. For these games the fonts are a large share: Block Drop's fonts weigh about as much as its code.
Fonts, the surprising line
Fonts rarely get a thought, but they add up. Lightkeeper downloads 103 KB of fonts, twice the size of its 49 KB of code. Last-Second Landing downloaded no font files at all in the test.
How big is big?
For scale, the HTTP Archive's 2025 Web Almanac puts the median mobile home page at 2,559 KB. Ten of the twelve games in the table download less than that, and the four smallest are under a tenth of it. All thirteen SalutGames games together come to about 22 MB.
On a return visit, almost none of it is downloaded again. The same test showed most games fetching about one kilobyte the second time, because their files are kept by the browser for a year.
